Virtue as Sacrifice is a work for female voice, live electronics and tape. The construction of the material and its structure are based on characteristics of ancient Greek tragedy such as drama, theatrical speech and mystical style which coexist in a modern musical context. The text on which the work is based is Aristotle’s ‘Hymn to Virtue’. The treatment of the text is largely abstract, with some words and/or phrases being used as they are in the work, while others are used purely abstractly. Regarding the relationship between voice and electronics, the aim was to create a dialogue between them where the electronics would create a sense of dance, as in ancient tragedy.

Η Αρετή ως Θυσία είναι ένα έργο για γυναικεία φωνή, live electronics και tape. Η κατασκευή του υλικού αλλά και η δόμηση αυτού βασίζονται σε χαρακτηριστικά της αρχαίας ελληνικής τραγωδίας όπως είναι η δραματικότητα, ο θεατρικός λόγος καθώς και το μυστηριακό ύφος τα οποία συνυπάρχουν σε ένα σύγχρονο μουσικό πλαίσιο. Το κείμενο πάνω στο οποίο στηρίχτηκε το έργο είναι το ‘Ὕμνος εἰς τὴν Ἀρετήν’ του Αριστοτέλη. Η αντιμετώπιση του κειμένου είναι κατά βάση αφαιρετική, με κάποιες λέξεις ή και φράσεις να χρησιμοποιούνται αυτούσιες στο έργο ενώ κάποιες άλλες να χρησιμοποιούνται καθαρά αφαιρετικά. Όσον αφορά την σχέση φωνής και ηλεκτρονικών, σκοπός ήταν η δημιουργία ενός διαλόγου μεταξύ αυτών όπου τα ηλεκτρονικά θα δημιουργούν την αίσθηση του χορού, όπως συμβαίνει στην αρχαία τραγωδία.
